"Millstones"

The Groundbreaking new work by RG, and the first of its kind in Michigan

August 28, 2010 at 8pm

Millstones is the first production of its kind here in Michigan, and we are eager to share the excitement and progress of this piece with fellow artists in the area.  It is a site specific dance work taking place in the great hall of the Armory Arts Village in Jackson, MI. The armory is a converted 19th century Michigan state prison, and holds a large amount of historic value to the city and state. This groundbreaking premiere is sure to captivate the imagination and emotions as the audience is taken on a journey of personal struggles, hardship, and ultimate triumph. Focusing on stories of people who have survived major world conflicts (the Holocaust, Northern Ireland, Northern Uganda, the Civil Rights movement, Sudan, and World War II), this stirring and moving dance work will challenge, amaze, and uplift all who attend. Likewise, the grandeur and scope of the production location will leave audience members breathless, as they witness dance in a space of magnitude and magic.

Along with admission, audience members will have the opportunity to view and purchase works of art from local and regional artists. These works will highlight the evening’s theme, and are commissioned for this production only. The paintings, sculptures, photographs, and mix-media that will be on display can only be viewed in this juried collection the evening of the performance, and the two weeks prior. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience an evening of all art forms in collaboration.

“Millstones” will be presented at the Armory Arts Village on August 28, 2010 at 8pm, and the art gallery doors will open at 6:30pm for audience member viewing.   “Millstones” is being presented through the generous support of Anderson University, located in Anderson, Indiana.  This once in a lifetime engagement is not to be missed. Seating is limited so be sure to reserve your seats soon. Tickets are $18 can be held by calling Jackson Dance Alliance at 517-581-4831 or can be purchased over the phone by calling Jackson School of the Arts 517-784-2389
